American Goulash

This is a recipe that I’ve been editing for years to make perfect for my taste palette. It’s good to make for large families or for meal prepping.

Equipment

  • 1 Large Pot

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef lean, or skim fat while cooking
  • 1 Carrot chopped
  • 1/2 Bell pepper chopped
  • 1 can Diced tomatoes with italian seasoning
  • 1 can Tomato sauce
  • 1.5 cup Water
  • 1.5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Salt if using low sodium tomatoes
  • 1 Garlic chopped (if using unspiced tomatoes)
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning (if using unspiced tomatoes)
  • 1 cup Macaroni
  • Shredded cheddar

Instructions

  • Saute ground beef over medium, breaking up while cooking. Cook until no longer medium.
  • Add vegetables to the pot after beef is cooked. If using 80% lean beef skim off the fat before adding vegetables. Cook vegetable for a new minutes.
  • Add cans of tomatoes and sauce. Also add water. Add any extra spices and stir. Simmer liquid for 15 minutes.
  • Add in pasta. Stir and simmer until pasta is cooked, about 20-30 minutes. Once pasta is al dente turn off heat and let the pot sit for another 15-30 minutes. The sauce will thicken in the time it sits.
  • Put goulash in bowls and add any shredded cheddar on top while the the meal is hot.

Notes
