I’ve struggled my whole life trying to find the perfect way to make consistent hard boiled eggs. This recipe has been the most consistent by cooking the eggs exactly the same every time. The yolk is soft, but not runny. In my opinion, it is the perfect hard boiled egg. Set a timer because if the instant pot naturally releases pressure for more than 5 minutes the eggs will be overcooked.
Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Cook Time 5 minutes minutes
Total Time 25 minutes minutes

Equipment
- 3qt Instant Pot
- Bowl to cool eggs
Ingredients
- 6 Eggs
- 1 cup Water
Instructions
- Place 1 cup of water in the instant pot. Place a cooking rack on top. My rack came with the instant pot. A steamer basket that fits in the instant pot will work as well.
- Put the 6 eggs on the rack.
- Set high pressure for 5 minutes. It will take about 10 minutes to get up to pressure and start the countdown.
- Natural release pressure for 5 minutes once pressure is done. Quick release after the 5 minutes of natural release.
- Put the eggs in a medium sized bowl and pour cold water over. Do this about 2 times or until eggs are cooled. The eggs will be ready to peel once cooled. Putting the eggs in cold water will stop them from cooking rather than waiting for them to cool at room temp.
Notes
If you have an instant pot larger than 3qts, just put enough water to cover 1/2 inch at the bottom of the pot.
